Originally known as British Atlantic Airways, the airline got its new name in the year 1984. The airline began operations on June 22nd, 1984 with the first flight between Gatwick and Newark with a leased Boeing 747-200 aircraft. In March, 2000, the company sold 49 percent stakes to Singapore Airlines. Since then the airline has grown to be one of the best airlines in the world.
